My Path to Yoga

For me, yoga is more than a practice—it's a journey that began quite unspectacularly. My husband gave me a yoga class for Christmas because I'd been curious for a long time. From the very first class, I felt how yoga enriched my life and gave me new strength.

I was particularly touched by the fact that I was able to inspire my 78-year-old mother-in-law to take up yoga. Since then, she feels more flexible, more relaxed, and her blood pressure has improved. This experience has shown me:

 

Yoga knows no age – it is suitable for everyone.

 

Inspired by these positive changes, I began training as a yoga therapist. I wanted to learn more about how yoga can strengthen body, mind, and soul in a holistic way. What I learned: It's not about perfection or flexibility, but about mindfulness and connecting with yourself.

I'm grateful for my mother-in-law, who showed me that it's never too late to start something new. My thanks also go to my husband, who supports me on this journey, and my yoga teacher Gisela Stauber, who has guided me with so much passion.

Today I would like to accompany you on your journey – with yoga, mindfulness and positive impulses that will help you find your own rhythm and inner peace.

I combine educational experience with therapeutic yoga knowledge:

I’ve had the opportunity to share yoga in many different settings and with people of all ages and backgrounds:

Viniyoga

What is Viniyoga?

Viniyoga is an individual and therapeutic yoga method developed by T.K.V. Desikachar, the son of the renowned yoga master Krishnamacharya. The term “Viniyoga” comes from Sanskrit and means “appropriate application” or “adapted use.” The focus is on adapting yoga to the individual’s needs, abilities, and goals, rather than expecting the person to conform to a fixed yoga style.

 

The main principles of Viniyoga:

  1. Individualization: Each yoga practice is tailored to the physical and mental capacities of the individual. The goal is to make yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of age, fitness level, or health condition.

  2. Integration of breath and movement: The breath (Pranayama) plays a central role. Movements are always synchronized with the breath, which enhances awareness and inner calm.

  3. Step-by-step approach: The practice is built gradually to allow the body and mind to adapt gently and to develop correct technique. Safety and health are prioritized throughout the process.

  4. Therapeutic orientation: Viniyoga is often used in a therapeutic context to address specific physical, mental, or emotional challenges.

  5. Holistic perspective: In addition to Asana (postures) and Pranayama, meditation and philosophical aspects of yoga are included to bring body, mind, and soul into harmony.

 

Who is Viniyoga for?

Viniyoga follows the philosophy that yoga should be accessible to every person and is adapted to the individual’s unique needs – in the spirit of “Yoga for the person, not the person for yoga.”

The roots of Berlin Yoga

Center

 

The Berlin Yoga Center (BYZ) was founded by Imogen Dalmann and Martin Soder – two people who live and teach yoga with great mindfulness and depth. Both received intensive training over many years from TKV Desikachar, one of the most important yoga teachers of our time and the son of the legendary Sri Krishnamacharya, considered the father of modern yoga.

Desikachar imparted an understanding of yoga that is always oriented towards the individual—personal, therapeutic, and relevant to life. This philosophy lies at the heart of BYZ. Imogen and Martin passed on this knowledge with great care and dedication, transforming the center into a place where yoga can not only be practiced, but truly understood and experienced.

Today, the BYZ is known for its in-depth training in Viniyoga, for its combination of yoga and Western medicine, and for its mindful, respectful approach to each individual.

Die letzten Monate des Jahres laden uns ein, langsamer zu werden, nach innen zu lauschen und Altes bewusst loszulassen. Wie die Bäume ihre Blätter abgeben, dürfen auch wir Ballast abstreifen und Raum für Neues schaffen.

In diesem Quartal widmen wir uns in unseren Yogastunden dem Prozess des Loslassens, der Erdung und des inneren Wärmens. Durch sanfte bis mittlere Asanasequenzen, Atemübungen (Pranayama) und Meditationen entsteht ein Raum der Ruhe, der Stabilität und des Vertrauens.
